Castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is an advanced stage of this disease with a significant impact on patients quality of lifeand unfavourable prognosis. Docetaxel chemotherapy is considered a standart treatment. Further treatment options in case ofdisease progression after chemotherapy are very limited. Cytochrome P-450 c17 inhibitor, abiraterone acetate (AA) is a novel drugused in second line treatment of CRPC. In this article we present results of international clinical studies evaluating efficiency andsafety of AA treatment. Nocturia is a very troublesome symptom; its incidence in the population is high and increases with age. For its significant impacton the quality of life of patients it is often the first reason to visit the urology department. Due to the complexity of the etiopathogenesisof this disease, the urologist's main role is the careful diagnosis. Integral part is the evaluation of the so-called frequencyvolume chart. Depending on the etiological type of nocturia (polyuria, nocturnal polyuria, reduced bladder capacity or sleepdisorders) treatment is initiated. Regulation of fluid intake and treatment of primary illness are indicated regardless of the typeof...

The treatment of cancer pain is an important part of a comprehensive oncological approach. Pharmacotherapy with strongopioids is of crucial importance. The currently available opioid agents, including opioids for the control of breakthrough pain, allow for appropriate individualization of pain management. The use of additional, more recent options of pharmacotherapy, such as cannabinoids, adjuvant analgesics, antidepressants, and local treatment agents, can contribute to improving the qualityof analgesia. In the case of refractory pain, interventional pain treatment procedures can be beneficial. Continuous treatmentmonitoring and multidisciplinary collaboration...

We use term „prostatic syndrome“ instead of the term „prostatitis“ recently. Ethiological agent can be found in only five to tenpercent of all cases. European Association of Urology recommends classification suggested by NIDDK/NIH (National Institute ofDiabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases/National Institutes of Health). Diagnosis of this syndrome is based on symptomatologyand presence of leukocytes and ethiological agent in the prostate and in its secretions. Treatment of the most patients is empirical.

The shortage of healthcare workers is currently considered a serious global problem. This could be further escalated due to theexpected demographic changes in the future.
