Genito-urinary infections

MUDr. Zbyněk Veselský Ph.D
Urocentrum Praha, s.r.o

Urinary tract infections along with respiratory and gastrointestinal infections represent the most common type of infectious diseases. The prevalence of individual diseases varies widely and so do the opinions of the adequate treatment options. A number of aspects can be used to classify genito-urinary infections: the aetiologic agent, the site of origin, the presence of underlying disease, the time course, the severity of infection, etc. In everyday clinical practice, it is of essential importance to determine whether the upper or lower urinary tract is affected by infection, whether there is an obstruction, and whether the patient needs to be referred to hospital. In genital infection, it is necessary to establish the risk of sexual transmission and to diagnose diseases which need to be solved by a venereologist and reported.
