Benign prostatic hyperplasia - combination treatment with alpha blockers and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors

MUDr. Martin Lukeš, MUDr. Jiří Heráček
Urologická klinika 3. LF UK a FN KV v Praze

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign tumour in elderly men. The clinical manifestation of this disease

in the form of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) reduces the quality of life of patients. The authors summarize the current options

and trends in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and specify the role of individual drug groups, particularly their possible

combinations in treating BPH.

Keywords: benign prostatic hyperplasia, medication therapy, alpha blockers, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.
