Sledování aktuálních trendů antibiotické rezistence u základních mikrobiálních kmenů je jedním ze základních předpokladů racionálního používání antibiotik. Například nedávno publikované výsledky takového sledování u tří nejvýznamnějších původců infekcí respiračního traktu (Str. pneumoniae, Str. pyogenes a H. influenzae) ukazují, že v ČR mírně vzrůstá rezistence na penicilin, rychleji roste rezistence k makrolidům, ale citlivost k ostatním antibiotikům se významně nemění.

Ofloxacin je fluorované chinolonové baktericidní chemoterapeutikum III. generace se širokým antibakteriálním spektrem, s velmi dobrým vstřebáváním z trávicího ústrojí a dobrým průnikem do tkání a sekretů, má dlouhý biologický poločas (5-10 hodin) a vylučuje se močí.
