Bones are a frequent site of urological tumour metastases. Comprehensive therapy includes the administration of bisphosphonates or monoclonal antibody denosumab. The effect of both consists in reducing, delaying, and preventing the skeletal complications associated with metastatic bone disease. The bisphosphonate recommended to treat skeletal metastases in prostate and kidney cancers is zoledronic acid administered intravenously. Monoclonal antibody denosumab has shown excellent efficacy in treating metastatic disease in both prostate cancer and kidney and bladder cancers.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common lifestyle diseases, with its incidence is rising rapidly not only in the Czech Republic, but all over the world. Thus, the issues of treatment and management of complications associated with this disease are increasingly important. The presence of diabetes puts urinary tract infections in the category of so-called secondary, or complicated, urinary infections the diagnosis and treatment of which, unlike primary urinary infections, requires a rapid and thorough examination and, in particular, early treatment initiation. Patients with diabetes have a significantly higher prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria...

Overactive bladder is a syndrome that includes frequency, urgency, and urgent incontinence with or without nocturia. The treatment relies on correct diagnosis. Lifestyle measures are the first treatment of choice. If they are not effective enough, it is necessary to initiate pharmacotherapy. Invasive methods are used only sporadically when every other therapy has failed. Pharmacotherapy involves not only benefits, but also numerous adverse effects. One needs to be familiar with them and approach the treatment of patients on an individual basis.

The treatment of advanced and metastatic renal cell cancer is based on systemic therapy in combination with cytoreductive local approaches. Cytokines, used in the past, may currently be beneficial for patients in a good prognostic group, but molecularly targeted biological treatment, mainly directed at key points of the defective VHL/HIF pathway, showed significantly better efficacy in patients of all prognostic groups with prolonged survival compared to interferon alpha. Currently tyrosinekinase receptor inhibitors for angiogenic growth factors, sorafenib, sunitinib and pazopanib, monoclonal antibody neutralizing vascular endothelial growth...

Gonorrhoea belongs to the commonest sexually transmitted diseases with relatively short incubation period. Its origin can be find in gram-negative diplococcus, N. gonorrhoeae. Primary it affects the columnar epithelium of urogenital tract with possible blood dissemination. Diagnostics comes out from the clinical picture and laboratory demonstration of pathogen. When positive finding, we retreat a patient with a suitable antibiotic according to the sensibility of gonococcus. Simultaneously we do the examination for other sexually transmitted diseases comprising HIV. We start screening tests. We examine all collected contacts on HIV and sexually...

Since enuresis and encopresis are first and foremost dealt with by urologist, it may be assumed that they will welcome a thesis on this topic. Summer camps for children suffering from enuresis and encopresis and their benefits for enuretic and encopretic children are positively assessed by the children themselves, their parents and the specialists participating in the camps (paediatricians, psychologists and physiotherapists). Some children have been to summer camps repeatedly and their progress even in the most problematic areas connected with the diagnosis is noticeable. Based on this observation, the author devoted herself in her thesis...

Novel oral anticoagulants in prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation are preferred since 2012. This large cohort of patients creates specific problems of optimal hemostasis in the perioperative period. In current practice used new anticoagulants – dabigatran (Pradaxa) and rivaroxaban (Xarelto) – do not require laboratory monitoring of anticoagulation, but we also have no specific antidote for bleeding complications. The characteristics and management of the new anticoagulant therapy should help to reduce the overall perioperative risk.
