Infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis represent the most common sexually transmitted bacterial disease in developed countries. Infections with A, B, C and L serotypes cause serious illness in tropical and subtropical areas and are rarely encountered in our conditions. By contrast, oculogenital forms affect the populations of economically developed countries. The prevalence in the population shows an increasing trend. According to WHO, more than 90 million of all sexually transmitted infections are caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacterium annually. Varicocele treatment strategy is frequently discussed topic. Specifications for surgical treatment are more tighter now. Treatment alternatives vary both in a surgeon and patient point of view. The recent trends in varicocele surgical treatment are discussed in this paper. Both lymphatic pathways sparing methods (a retroperitoneal laparoscopic ligation or an inquinal/subinquinal microsurgical ligation) and subinquinal prograde sclerotherapy are the current optimal surgical techniques. Minimum of serious complications (e. g. persistence or recurrence of varicocele, testicular atrophy, postoperative hydrocele) are major benefits of these methods.

Induratio penis plastica or Peyronie‘s disease is characterized by the presence of fibrous plaques in the tunica albuginea of the penis. It is a connective tissue disease primarily affecting the tunica albuginea. The plaques are mainly composed of collagen and may significantly alter the anatomy and function of the penis. Treatment is difficult; medication therapy should always be initiated first. If oral medication fails, treatment with local injection applied directly into the plaque can be used. The author reviews the literature data and his own results of treatment with verapamil administered locally in 17 patients with this disease.

Routine monitoring can be performed by a general practitioner or a local urologist. It comprises physical and laboratory tests once a year, ultrasound examinations once every half a year, urine...
