Acute renal failure (or acute kidney injury as it is now referred to in the literature) is a clinical syndrome characterized by a sudden decline
in renal function associated with retention of nitrogenous substances and other catabolites. It is a serious condition associated with
significant morbidity/mortality. The prognosis of acute renal failure is closely dependent on the causative factor, the degree of renal
damage at diagnosis, and the quality of treatment provided. An early diagnosis and prompt provision of appropriate care can favourably
affect a large number of acute renal failure cases and reduce the risk of acute clinical complications as well as that of developing
chronic renal failure.
