Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common cause of sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Genital warts (condylomata accuminata,

venereal warts) are the most easily recognized sign of genital HPV infection. Many people, however, have a genital HPV infection

without genital warts. Infection with certain types of HPV can cause the development of dysplastic epithelial leasions and urogenital malignities

(cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, penile cancer, anal cancer). It is possible to diagnose genital warts just by seeing them. Subclinical

leasions (invisible warts) can be identified by applying vinegar (acetic acid). The best diagnostic method is a PCR method. We only treat

macroscopical leasions. There is no point treating subclinical leasions or trying to eradicate infection from the body. Depending on such

factors as the size and location of the genital warts, we can offer one of several ways to treat them (local application of pharmacs with

cytotoxic or antiviral activity) or we can remove genital warts by cryosurgery (freezing), laser treatment or surgical excision or ablation.

Prevention against against HPV infection is vaccination.
