Reliable contraceptive methods for men, comparable to modern female methods, have been identified. Selected regimens are under
active development through the collaboration of andrologists, public sector agencies and pharmaceutical industries. Clinical studies
employing prototype drugs have demonstrated that the hormonal approach to switching off spermiogenesis provides contraceptive
efficacy and is reversible with short term safety. No regimen yet achieves consistent azoospermia in all men. Combination regimens
involving a second gonadotropin-supressing agent, usually a progestine, combined with testosterone achieve close to the ideal of
universal supression of spermiogenesis and contraceptive efficacy. Vasectomy is the surrest methos of male contraception, failure rate
is approximately 1 : 1 000. Vasectomy should be regarded as an irreversible procedure. Informed consent form for vasectomy, partner
notification and vasectomy surgeon´s statement is neccesary.
