Neurogennic dysfunction of the lower urinary tract develops in majority of patients after transversal spinal lesion (TSL). It is distinguished
by a relative state of instability, which requires regular monitoring. Diagnostics, monitoring and therapy should be in the hands of renowned
specialized neurological centers. Up to 2 years after injury, check-ups are necessary every 3–6 months; after that once every
1–2 years depending on risk factors. Routine monitoring can be performed by a general practitioner or a local urologist. It comprises
physical and laboratory tests once a year, ultrasound examinations once every half a year, urine monitoring once every two months,
continuous urine monitoring with a diagnostics strip once every 14 days. Based on risk factors or recurring complication it is necessary to
do systematic check on all levels.
