Urolog. pro Praxi, 2007; 8(5): 202-204
In recent years, the subject field of individual specialities has narrowed down. The sphere of interest as well as actual care sometimes overlap with the care originally provided exclusively by another discipline. A specific status is ascribed to oncology which is a blending of three disciplines: internal medicine, surgery, and radiology. Nonetheless, a recent Ministry of Health order attributes a dominant position to clinical oncologists. In this new context, a definition of the urologist‘s position is being sought who can both historically and currently diagnose and treat some urooncologic diseases and who would be supposed to continue in this practice to the same extent. Mutual negotiations between urology and oncology representatives will be required to reach a satisfactory consensus. The article aims to highlight the possible pitfalls and problems which have not been addressed by the urology part so far.
