Antibiotic treatment of community lower urinary tract infections

The paper gives a survey of the most common bacterial etiologic agents of community lower urinary tract infections in the district of Olomouc, their resistence to antibiotics included. The increasing of frequency of Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis strains resistant to oxolinic acid and ofloxacin are discussed in conjunction with 6 times increased consumption of fluoroquinolones compared to years 1997-2001. Based on the presented facts the scheme of initial antibiotic therapy is proposed.
